Stihl 462 vs 500i.
Remember the 500i is the successor to the 461, with the 462 being the successor to the 441 and the 44 badge being discarded. I do fine felling the occasional 30-40” oak with a 25” bar on my 462r. 500i ought to be plenty strong, and is light enough to be easily used for other tasks as well.
The 462 is a little lighter and has the advantage of keeping the air filter cleaner much longer. There are also reports that the 500 is a fuel guzzler, often needs the springs replaced with longer bars, and may have some "cold start" issue when the temps drop. About 3 hrs, i took the 462 back to stihl and they claimed it was flooded and fuel was still in the muffler and filter smelling of fuel.

Next issue. You say the mtronic would adjust for a muffler mod on a Stihl 462. I know on older ECUs (mtronics) that the electronics could only adjust within certain parameters. The 462 seems like it’s going to be the lightest in its class for sure. I think Husqvarna fattened up the 562XP in the last few years . Check Husqvarna.com it specs the 562XP at 6.1kg (13.448 lbs) Stihl MS462 on the Stihl site is spec at 6 kg (13.228 lbs) Those specs have been out for a few years now.I talked to my local stihl dealer and they have the 462 between $1100 and $1200, they have the 461 for about $1000.
